The ingredient of alcohol is ethanol. The more you drink, the more you drink, the more you feel like you drink alcohol because you become resistant to ethanol, which does not show the effect of ethanol at the same dose, increasing the intake capacity. Therefore, you keep drinking it and it brings addictive qualities that you must drink. When alcoholism occurs, there is a vicious cycle in which alcohol drinkers lose their ability to control ethanol intake on their own and weaken their will to suppress alcohol, making them more unable to stop drinking. In the case of alcoholism, there is no medicine because it goes beyond the stage of quitting by one's will.
Alcohol is the first to enter the mouth, causing oral diseases such as oral cancer and tongue cancer, and the esophagus is also directly stimulated, causing esophagitis and esophageal cancer. In addition, because of stomach damage, it is considered to be the cause of gastritis and gastric ulcers, and causes digestive systems such as colon diseases. If it worsens in this state, it turns into "gastric cancer." In particular, drinking on an empty stomach greatly increases the incidence of gastric cancer.
Alcoholics have a high risk of tooth loss due to periodontal disease. This is because excessive alcohol consumption affects bone metabolism abnormalities, causing overall bone loss in the body. According to reports, ethanol can cause bone absorption (osteoporosis), inhibit bone production, and be directly toxic to periodontal disease, so you should refrain from drinking heavily to avoid losing your teeth. Drinking is a dangerous act that should never be done if you have an implant or are undergoing a procedure. Alcohol may cause inflammation around the implant, melting the gum bones, and in the worst case, the implant may have to be removed. Men who drink a lot are 1.6 times more likely to develop periodontal disease than men who do not drink, according to a study.
Alcohol has a harmful effect on the immune system and lowers the antibacterial ability in the mouth due to weakening the immune system, causing gum inflammation. Secondary infection should be absolutely prevented in order to recover well the damaged wound caused by tooth extraction after dental treatment and the weakened part by treatment after implant surgery or gum treatment. However, alcohol prevents foreign substances (ethanol) from entering the treatment area and prevents defense in the body, and delays wound healing by degrading this defense ability. Alcohol consumption also makes the liver vulnerable to drug metabolism, which is one of the reasons for delayed healing after dental treatment.
Alcohol also causes bad breath. If you drink alcohol often, your bad breath gets worse. Alcohol reduces the secretion of saliva, and when the saliva dries, harmful substances become active and the tongue increases, which naturally worsens the bad breath. If alcohol is consumed, moisture in the body decreases in the process of decomposing it, and if the frequency of drinking is high, the incidence of diseases in the oral cavity is high. In addition, alcohol can cause systemic problems. In particular, alcohol addiction or alcohol misuse can cause fatty liver, liver cirrhosis, brain function, atrophy, myocardial lesion, gastrointestinal bleeding, pancreatitis, etc. The World Health Organization (WHO) said excessive alcohol consumption is the third highest cause of death after cancer and cardiovascular disease.
If you fall asleep without brushing your teeth after drinking alcohol, oral hygiene becomes much worse, causing or worsening periodontal disease. If you smoke and drink at the same time, periodontal disease caused by bone absorption can worsen. Therefore, even after drinking alcohol, efforts should be made to prevent diseases by cleaning the toothbrush and creating a clean oral environment.
