I recently heard a speech about the recent topic of “black lives matter”. The people standing at the back talked about the general stereotypical and discriminative words, and the people standing at the front talked about how those are misleading statements. There was an incident in which the blacks were wrongly accused, and I think this speech is also trying to talk about such a mistake. Those people are directly making an argument against each other, which makes the speech powerful and impactful. Moreover, the spoken word really brings up the emotion of the audience since it directly delivers the word face-to-face.
I believe this is a good example of making a difference. The first step of making a difference is to find a problem and raise a voice about it. This spoken word does this deliberately and thoroughly. Moreover, their ways of delivering their words were very creative, which can easily attract people’s attention. I believe another part of making a difference is to raise people’s awareness, and in this sense, this spoken word is also doing a great job. I believe this is a form of Civil Disobedience since it is refusing to obey and accept society’s dark side of racism. It is raising their voice and actively opposing such problems. Therefore, though the form is different, this spoken word essentially serves the same purpose.
