GS Caltex and the Natural Bot Research Institute will manufacture a filter net to prevent the inflow of garbage in Jung-gu, Mapo-gu, and Songpa-gu, Seoul, and install it on rainwater benches along the road. Mapo-gu and Yeongdeungpo-gu will carry out campaigns to produce road stickers containing slogans banning waste dumping and attach them around rainwater baskets.
According to the Ministry of Environment, more than 455,000 cigarette butts are estimated to flow into the ocean a day. The tobacco filter introduced into the sea takes more than 10 years to completely decompose. Microplastics and various harmful ingredients from cigarette filters are known to have a bad effect on the marine ecosystem by polluting the creatures and the environment in the sea. Due to torrential rains and flooding in Seoul and the metropolitan area in August, the importance of playing the role of rainwater along the road has been highlighted.
The Nature Institute will run a campaign to improve citizens' awareness to prevent illegal speculation of microplastics (cigarette butts) under the slogan "From here to the sea" from November 8 to December 28. 100 citizen supporters will be recruited from 18 to 34 years of age.
Citizen Supporters, which will be sponsored by GS Caltex, regularly monitors rainwater baskets with filter nets and uploads the results and videos of supporters' activities on personal SNS. Applications for participation in citizen supporters can be made on the website of the Nature Institute. In addition, the Nature Institute plans to hold a contest for videos of activities posted by civic supporters.
During the first anniversary of the launch of the Energy Plus app, GS Caltex will use Energy Plus Card Edition 2 (Edition 2) as donations to create and install filter nets and road stickers and support campaign activities conducted by the Nature Institute. The accumulated fundraising can be checked in real time through the Energy Plus app.
An official from GS Caltex said, "We have supported campaign activities to protect the city and sea environment with the Nature Institute, which is creating a society where we live with nature. We will continue to discover and support activities to protect the Earth where we live."
In September last year, GS Caltex launched an Energy Plus app equipped with a "baro gas" function. Baro Liquor Service is a service that allows customers to order and pay for gas at once by scanning a barcode or entering a pin number at a gas station if they register fueling patterns such as oil type and amount of gas in advance in the app. Currently, gas service is available directly at more than 800 GS Caltex gas stations.
Customer demand is increasing, with the amount of oil used by Energy Plus app Baro increasing more than 20 times compared to the initial launch last year. In addition to eco-friendly campaign activities linked to the Energy Plus app, GS Caltex is holding various events for new customers and existing customers to mark the first anniversary of the launch of the Energy Plus app.
GS Caltex will give GS Caltex 5,000 won gas discount coupons to new customers who have installed the Energy Plus app, and will give existing customers 10,000 won gas discount coupons on a first-come, first-served basis every day. Every time you invite a friend to the Energy Plus app, you will also receive a 3,000 won discount coupon.
In addition, to commemorate the first anniversary of "Energy Plus Card Edition 2," which was introduced in collaboration with Hyundai Card, it is also holding an event to register an energy plus app payment card and provide gas discount coupons and cashbacks to customers using "Baro Liquor."
