Civil Rights Address

The main idea of the speech is that all men are created equal. John F. Kennedy points out that even though every people possess equal right, black people are segregated, and their children are educated separately. He also mentions how slavery has ended many years ago but still is treated unequally in society. He says “One hundred years of delay have passed since President Lincoln freed the slaves, yet their heirs, their grandsons, are not fully free”. He says blacks were not fully free because they were discriminated against in society and lacks political and economic opportunities. He was addressing all the citizens in the US. He says “Good evening, my fellow citizens” in the beginning to show that he is talking to all the citizens. He also says “ I ask the support of all our citizens” to make sure that he was asking all citizens to participate in mitigating the racial segregation.

The first right is that the right to use public facilities. He says “I am, therefore, asking the Congress to enact legislation giving all Americans the right to be served in facilities which are open to the public”. The second right is the right to vote. He says “Other features will be also requested, including greater protection for the right to vote”. He also says black people are “denied the right to a decent education”, to suggest the right to be educated. I agree with John F. Kennedy because I also believe that every man is created equal, and has the same right to pursue. I believe that being segregated because of their race isn’t just, and it’s denying human dignity. Therefore, I think the writer has done a great job demonstrating why people should have attention to racial discrimination and segregation.
