The stock market, which has raised concerns over Musk's continued unpredictable moves since the acquisition of Twitter, also seemed to be somewhat relieved, and Tesla's stock price, which had plummeted for a while, soared.
In a 12-hour vote on Musk's personal Twitter account from 6:20 p.m. the previous day to the morning, 57.5 percent of the 17,502,391 respondents, more than half of them, expressed their "yes".
Only 42.5 percent voted against it.
Musk posted the survey and said, "I will follow the results of this vote," but Reuters pointed out that there was no specific mention of when he would resign.
However, in a reply to a Twitter user, he replied, "There is no successor."
Tesla's stock price, which was listed on NASDAQ in the U.S., jumped 5.0% in loading trading on the same day.
Recently, Tesla shareholders have complained that Musk is neglecting Tesla's management, his "main job," after buying Twitter in October.
Tesla shares fell nearly 30% during the period, and in the aftermath, Musk briefly gave up the world's richest position to Bernard Arno, chairman of LVMH, and fell to second place.
