Harmony
Desolate desert, there stood a delicate tree
Him, without sturdy root to carry; lonely.
A tree is just a tree,
But coming together, it’s what we call a forest
Home for the fledgling,
A place for the starling
Couch for those who are on a long trip
The sound filled with mingling animal’s kinship
A small, nugatory grain of sand
Do we even care, the particle in our hand
Sand is just sand
But coming together, it’s what we call a desert
Home for the cactus
The place for a rattlesnake, all around Kansas
Picturesque for those who are on a long journey
The sound filled with them in harmony.
