How to Effectively Exercise in Winter

Winter is a harsh season; we often find ourselves don't want to exercise. But when you overcome the cold weather, the exercise effect is greater than in other seasons. This is because calorie consumption is higher in winter. When the weather gets cold, the basic metabolism of our bodies also increases by about 10%. In particular, body fat can be reduced because fat energy is burned in the process of contracting muscles to dissipate heat. It introduces how to increase the effectiveness of winter exercise.

The most important thing to increase the effectiveness of exercise is to drink water before exercising. The water you drink before exercising also plays a role in maintaining the proper temperature of your body in addition to supplying moisture. The heart rate does not over-face only when the body temperature is properly maintained. If the body overheats due to lack of moisture, more sweat is released and dehydration becomes worse. You should drink lukewarm water rather than excessively cold or hot water during winter exercise or hot water. Water of 5 to 15 degrees is good for moisture absorption.

Don't go out dressed lightly to see the effects of exercise. If you shake your body in the cold wind and repeat sweating through exercise, you are more likely to catch a cold. The basis of winter exercise is, above all, keeping warm. Rather than just wearing thick clothes, it is better to wear several layers of light, sweaty, and airy clothes. In addition, scarves, hats, and gloves should be worn to increase warmth.

Exposed skin, such as cheeks, nose, and ears, is at risk of frostbite. It can also appear on the hands and feet. The initial signs are numbness or stabbing. If frostbite is suspected, it should be avoided immediately. Warm the area slowly, but do not rub it because there is a risk of damage to the skin.

Hypothermia is an abnormally low body temperature. Clinically, it refers to a state in which the central body temperature has fallen below 35℃. When exposed to the cold, our bodies begin to lose heat at a faster rate than they can produce. If hypothermia is suspected, visit the hospital immediately.

There are often people who went outside to jog in relatively light clothes at dawn and suddenly felt dizzy, fell, or lost consciousness. Stroke is the cause. As such, the winter season is a time when the incidence of stroke increases rapidly. Patients suffering from high blood pressure and stroke are advised to refrain from early morning exercise in winter as much as possible and in the afternoon or early evening when the temperature is high. It is also good to exercise indoors. Experts recommend aerobic exercise that does not put much pressure on the body, such as indoor bicycles.
