Having knowledge is very important in today's society. Accordingly. the desire for education soared. People started to aspire for higher degrees and better education systems. Therefore, people started to acquire knowledge in their own way. Some prefer to have deep knowledge about one particular subject, and others prefer to have a broad range of knowledge. Personally, I believe having an intense knowledge in one specific field is much better than having a wide array of knowledge, and there are two reasons for this.
First and foremost, having a deep knowledge about one specific topic allows people to collaborate. Collaboration often occurs when each individual is proficient in his or her own topic. If every individual has light knowledge, then there's no point in collaboration because each member has nothing to offer to the community. For example, in school, my team was required to do research about water scarcity. I was an environmental activist, so I had comparatively deep knowledge in the field of the environment. Similarly, each member had his or her own interests and members were all very professional in their own specific fields. We had a scientist, an environmentalist, a scientist, and a sociologist. Thus, when we all came together to collaborate, each member was able to offer deep knowledge. We successfully completed the project by analyzing the water scarcity issue from diverse perspectives.
Secondly, I believe having deep knowledge is crucial in the current society because people want professionals who are proficient in their field of knowledge. This is why people with higher degrees are often more treated well compared to those who don't. For example, in the marketing and financial field, people with MBA degrees often receive higher salaries compared to those who just graduated from typical four-year colleges. This is because people trust the person who spent more time in one field to be more proficient. Such an idea is also applicable in the field of law and medicine. When people desire to practice law or medicine, they need to go to medical school or law school. Both are considered as graduate schools, meaning that occupations related to medicine and law require deep knowledge. This notion can be easily applied to our daily life. People usually want to see doctors who are very proficient, because doctors deal with human life. Similarly, when people get involved in lawsuits, they want skilled lawyers who have deep knowledge of the law. People don't care if doctors and lawyers are good at drawing, and this shows why having deep knowledge about one particular subject is more appealing than having just general knowledge about many subjects.
To conclude, while there might be benefits of having ideas in diverse fields, there are more advantages for a person to succeed in one field.
