Recent Technological Developments for Insomniacs

Sleeping is very important. During sleep, the body works to support healthy brain function and maintain physical health. For children and teenagers sleeping helps them to grow and develop. Thus, we have to be aware of getting inadequate sleep, as it may raise the risk of chronic disease and health problems.

First of all, Delightroom (CEO Shin Jae-myung), a developer of the global morning wellness app Alamy, recently published a paper on "Morning Behavior Change through Weather Tasks" in the international journal Journal of Medical Internet Research (JMIR) through industry-academic cooperation research with Hanyang University.

The researchers provided mission alarms (photographing, solving math problems) and general alarms to the participants in the experiment, and observed whether they performed squat exercises immediately after waking up every morning.

As a result, it was found that the mission alarm use group had a higher performance rate of about 15% or more compared to the group that did not. In addition, it was found that the time it took to complete the target action after the alarm went off was 50 to 230 seconds shorter when the mission alarm was used.

Professor Ko Min-sam of the Department of ICT Convergence at Hanyang University, who led the study, said, "This experiment showed that the mission to move the body is more effective than the mission to achieve the target behavior."

In addition, Emma Healthcare recently participated in the KES 2022 (53rd Korea Electronics Exhibition) held at COEX in Seoul to introduce smart baby bed "Bebelucy" products. Bebelucy previously won the Innovation Award at CES 2022, the world's largest electronic exhibition.

Smart Baby Bed Bebelucy applies a camera image-based machine learning algorithm to monitor baby's heartbeat, breathing, stress health information, sleep information analysis, and environmental information on temperature, humidity, and air quality around the baby.

There are also white noise and bounce functions, including the mother's heart sound, which helps the baby sleep comfortably. Information is delivered to the guardian through a dedicated smart device application.

Meanwhile, as a medical device for the treatment of sleep apnea patients, efforts to increase compliance with the positive pressure field, which the American Sleep Society recommends as standard treatment for middle to severe adult sleep apnea patients, are also eye-catching.

ResMed, a global sleep solution brand, announced last month that it will provide "Connected Care Service," a digital healthcare solution for sleep apnea patients. The ResMed Connected Care service, which consists of the patient management system "AirView" and the sleep management application "myAir," is a differentiated system that allows medical staff and patients to check and manage sleep records.

The connected care system can efficiently manage patients by improving the compliance and effectiveness of patients' positive pressure treatment and providing useful information to medical staff. Through AirView, a cloud-based patient management system, treatment history, and compliance information can be easily and quickly checked. In particular, efficient time management is possible due to the reduction of outpatient treatment for positive pressure patients.

A company official said, "While patients managed with Resmed's air view showed 70% compliance with treatment, patients using Air View and My Air showed 87% compliance with treatment," and emphasized, "If you use the connected system, which is a ResMed digital solution, you can increase compliance and increase the effectiveness."
