Restricted Health Insurance Benefits for Kickboard Accidents

The National Health Insurance Corporation (NHS) announced that unlicensed accidents of personal mobile devices such as electric kickboards may be severely negligent and health insurance benefits may be restricted.

According to the corporation, Article 53 of the National Health Insurance Act requires that "if there is a cause for a criminal act due to intentional or gross negligence or intentionally causes an accident" to be excluded from insurance benefits.

Article 43 of the Road Traffic Act prohibits the operation of personal mobile devices by persons who do not have a license for motorcycles or more.

However, due to the lack of awareness of related laws, the number of unlicensed personal mobile device insurance accidents among young people is increasing. As a result, objections related to restrictions on health insurance benefits and unfair gains are also being filed.

In fact, nine objections have been filed with the corporation's objection committee since last year regarding the limitation of insurance benefits or the recovery of unfair gains for unlicensed electric kickboard accidents, but all have been rejected.

An official from the corporation said, "After the revision of the Road Traffic Act, serious criminal accidents such as violations of the prohibition of unlicensed driving of personal mobile devices can be recovered due to restrictions on health insurance benefits and unfair gains."
