Safety Education for Children

Safety accidents for children are increasing every year, but they are far from our interest. It should not be easy to think that the more children start doing something on their own, the more they should pay attention to safety accidents. Article 31 (1) of the Child Welfare Act stipulates that child welfare facilities must provide traffic safety education, education on the prevention of missing persons, education on the prevention of misuse of drugs, education on sexual violence and child abuse, and safety education on disaster preparedness.

According to data from the National Statistical Office, the death rate of children's safety accidents in Korea is twice the total age. This is because children are immature to do it alone like adults and lack attention and judgment, so they have no choice but to suffer from the inability to prevent or cope with safety accidents on their own. In addition, crimes against children have increased compared to the past, and changes in the living environment, which has more items and places that threaten safety, play a role.

In order to prevent children safety accidents, continuous safety education for children and attention from both our society are needed. If children receive systematic safety education repeatedly according to their age, they can prevent safety accidents due to lack of attention and judgment, and reduce damage even if inevitable safety accidents occur.

Currently, various institutions provide early childhood safety education, but it is not suitable for children's age and environment. In the case of first and second graders of elementary school, just as "safe life" courses centered on hands-on activities are being established and safety education is being conducted according to age, more systematic and practical education should be provided to prevent accidents for children.

One or two children lost their lives on school buses every year, but after the education authorities did not respond, the president ordered a supplementary budget to install safety bells for sleeping devices last year. It's late, but it's a very fortunate thing. It will be a good example of safety education in life being established one by one. Systematic learning should be carried out from an early age so that people themselves have a sense of safety through safety education and hands-on learning in our lives.
