In a paper introduced in the British Medical Journal, a journal of internal medicine, it was introduced that sitting for more than eight hours a day increases the risk of premature death, cardiovascular disease, and type 2 diabetes, and using a height-controlled desk increases physical comfort and productivity than otherwise.
Instead of sitting for six hours in the European Journal of Cardiology, a study has shown that you can lose weight just by standing. According to an analysis of 46 studies conducted by the research team on a total of 1,184 participants with an average age of 33, it took 54 calories just to stand for six hours.
However, despite having so many advantages, standing work also causes discomfort and pain. Those who practiced standing up for a while complained of swelling in their calves and knee joint pain. Muscle contraction continued due to tension in the muscles and bones around the spine, and blood circulation stagnated as in the sitting posture after standing for a long time. It was natural that concentration and work efficiency were poor. It is true that the standing posture consumes 30% more calories than the sitting posture, but the amount of calories consumed was minimized when the standing posture was continued for a long time.
Changing your posture periodically is the answer
A research team at Exeter University in the UK studied 5,000 lifestyles for 16 years and came to the conclusion that "keeping any posture for a long time is all harmful to health." This was also proven in an experiment conducted by a U.S. medical institution on office workers. For seven weeks, one group used a height-adjusted desk to work sitting and standing up, while the other continued to work in a sitting position. As a result, back and neck pain was reduced by more than half in the group that worked while changing posture, and the condition improved. More important is the change after the experiment. Those who had recovered from the pain also started to sit down and work again, returning to their original state in two weeks.
