Test Taker's Headache

When you are about to have an important day or when you are stressed, your body notices first. The headache begins when the neck becomes stiff and the head feels heavy, and the headache issued at this time is a tension headache. Tension headaches are a common headache that most people can experience. It is known as a relatively light intensity headache caused by factors such as stress, fatigue, and lack of sleep.

Tense headaches usually have symptoms when you have headaches. It appears as a feeling of tightening, pressing on the head or shoulder, and most of it appears on both sides. I feel dull and persistent headaches, but they are easily relieved by painkillers. You can live your daily life because the intensity of the pain is light, but if the frequency of headaches is frequent, a rather strong headache may occur.

The cause is not clear. However, excessive psychological burden, muscle tension, and fatigue are accumulated in the short or long term. Stress, anxiety, lack of sleep, and bad posture can also cause headaches. However, you should avoid self-diagnosing headaches only because of "stress" and leaving them unattended or taking only easily available painkillers. In some cases, dangerous causes such as cerebral hemorrhage, increased cerebral pressure, and meningitis can appear as headaches. In addition, taking painkillers in the long run may lead to dependence on painkillers or gastrointestinal bleeding due to long-term use of painkillers. It is recommended that you visit a specialist and receive treatment with counseling.

Treatment is carried out in consideration of the frequency and severity of headaches, the impact on life, the response to previous treatment, and the history of drug misuse. Usually, treatment such as taking prescription drugs, injecting pain-causing points, correcting lifestyle habits, taking drugs for sleep and treating cognitive behavior, and correcting posture is helpful. Preventive management is as important as treatment. It is helpful to sleep at a fixed time and improve stress by exercising or meditating. It is also necessary to reduce caffeine intake and manage abstinence and non-smoking.

Due to COVID-19, not only examinees but also quarantine authorities have not been able to relax due to a different atmosphere at the test site than in previous years. This excessive tension can manifest itself as a headache. If you have a headache the day before or in the morning of the test, it is recommended to take medicine early. This is because there is a concern that symptoms may worsen or the duration may be prolonged while holding out. If you have a migraine, it is recommended that you take the medicine in advance the evening or morning before the test and take the medicine you usually take to the test site. During breaks, looking far away for even a moment or relaxing muscles with simple stretching helps relieve headaches and tension.
