Varying Cake Prices in Korea

At the end of the year, the phenomenon of "polarization" is also evident in Christmas cake consumption in Korea.


While many people are looking for cost-effective cakes as interest rate rapidly increased and accordingly reduce their real consumption capacity, hotel cakes, called "small luxury," are also popular.


According to industries on the 3rd, Shilla Seoul has been selling three Christmas limited edition special cakes since the 1st. "Alluring Winter", "The Brightest Moment Ever", and "White Holiday" are priced from 130,000 won to 250,000 won.


Chosun Palace will showcase four types of Christmas cakes: "White Tree Special", "Mary Santa House", "White Forest", and "Sweet Snow" The price will range from 85,000 won to 250,000 won. In dollar, this is about $65 to $192.


Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas has released five Christmas special editions: "Merry-Go-Round", "White Candle", "Snowball", "Centennial Ganache", and "Gingerbread House". The most expensive cake is a "Merry-Go-Round" modeled after a merry-go-round, which costs 200,000 won. This is about $155.


Most hotel cakes have risen in price from last year due to rising raw materials, but they are still enjoying high popularity, with a flood of pre-booking calls.


On the other hand, there is also a movement to target cost-effective people who want to make Christmas feel at an inexpensive price.


Shinsegae Food will sell "Bbangbbangduk Mini Whipped Cream Cake" at 9,980 won at bakery stores in E-Mart. The "Molkang Molkang Chiffon Cake" with white chocolate and nut toppings on the chiffon was also released at 9,980 won.


Convenience stores are offering cakes for one to two people that can be enjoyed without burden.


Seven-Eleven will showcase a mini cake for one to two people in collaboration with "Turtle Hip", which is famous for custom cakes in Hongdae.


GS25 previously released four mini cakes, including "Dore Dore Strawberry Santa Cake", "Dore Dore Milk Cloud Cake", "Dolce Chocolate Cake", and "Blueberry Long Cake", for 5,000 won to 6,000 won. This is about $4 to $5.
