Wrist Tunnel Syndrome

Hands move all day from morning to night. Recently, as the use of computers and mobile phones has increased, many people are coping with wrist pain.

At this time of the year, when the temperature drops sharply and cold winds blow, muscle tissues around the wrist and wrist shrink and blood circulation is not smooth, worsening wrist pain.

A representative-related syndrome is wrist tunnel syndrome. Wrist tunnel syndrome is caused by compression of the median nerve in the wrist area. Nine tendons and one nerve connecting arms and hands pass around this place, which is called the median nerve. When the median nerve is narrowed due to various causes or internal pressure increases, abnormal symptoms appear in the palm and fingers under pressure. The cause of wrist tunnel syndrome is mostly an excessive hand usage. Muscle tube syndrome can also occur due to fractures or dislocations of the wrist joint, rheumatoid arthritis, or edema due to trauma. Diabetes is known to increase the incidence by about 40%. The initial symptom is wrist pain. The more hands you use, the more pain you get. The numbness becomes worse when you wake up due to numbness in your hands or stay with your wrists bent for about 30 seconds. If you put your hands in cold water or if the weather is cold, your fingertips are unusually cold and numb. Self-diagnosis is highly likely to be wrist tunnel syndrome if the finger becomes numb after continuing for a minute after bending the wrist with the backs of both hands facing down. If left unattended for a long time, the muscle strength of the fingers decreases, causing inconvenience in daily life, such as dropping objects when they are lifted. To prevent wrist tunnel syndrome, it is important to correct the wrong posture. As wrist tunnel syndrome causes problems while working in a low wrist position, it is better to keep your wrists and fingers in equilibrium like playing the piano when working on a computer. However, if there is no improvement in the above efforts, it is recommended to go to the hospital.
